Guga Szabzon is an artist and educator. In her practice, she explores felt as a support for sewing, weaving images through a dialogic process between technique and gesture, in which the spontaneity of the line responds to the speed of the machine. In her recent works, realized across different scales, lines sweep across the felt surface, creating vibrant compositions of color and movement or evoking landscapes, maps, and cartographic studies. In her abstract works, lines, dots, and fragmented geometric forms establish a continuous movement with a syncopated rhythm. Her practice also encompasses drawings and notes, through which the artist gathers poetic writings, words, and other fragments of everyday life born from attentive observation of the world, elements that are as essential to her process as her studio routine.

In 2025, Szabzon presented the solo exhibition Triz at Biblioteca Mário de Andrade, São Paulo, Brazil, and the special project Calambur at Millan, São Paulo, Brazil. Other solo exhibitions include Tremor, Millan, São Paulo, Brazil (2023); No todo trayecto es recto, Travesía Cuatro, Guadalajara, Mexico (2023); Dia e noite, ainda é longe?, Galeria Superfície, São Paulo, Brazil (2021); and Tudo que criamos passa a existir, Sesc Ipiranga, São Paulo, Brazil (2019).

Notable group exhibitions include A felicidade é uma arma quente, Garoa Espaço Cultural, São Paulo, Brazil (2026); Constelação em trânsito: uma escuta cartográfica, Galpão da Lapa, São Paulo, Brazil (2025); I Opened the Curtain to See What Lies Behind, carlier | gebauer, Berlin, Germany (2024); A vastidão dos mapas, Palacete das Artes, Salvador, Brazil (2018); and Hóspede, Fundação Ema Klabin, São Paulo, Brazil (2018).

In 2018, Szabzon was one of the artists invited to activate artworks at the 33rd Bienal de São Paulo. She has participated in several artist residency programs, including A Ilha, Lisbon, Portugal (2016); Instituto Acaia, São Paulo, Brazil (2014); and Brasil Goes Berlin, Germany (2010). In 2009, she took part in Projeto Tripé at Sesc Pompeia, and in 2012, in the Exhibition Program at Centro Cultural São Paulo – CCSP. Her work is held in the collection of the Museu de Arte do Rio – MAR, Brazil.
