Almeida & Dale and Galeria Jaider Esbell de Arte Indígena Contemporânea work together to continuously promote the work and legacy of the artist, curator, and activist Jaider Esbell (1979, Normandia, RR – 2021, São Sebastião, SP, Brazil). As the sole commercial representation of the artist’s estate, Almeida & Dale works closely with the family and the team of Jaider Esbell Gallery, contributing to the inclusion of his work in important exhibitions, institutions, and collections, both Brazilian and international, in order to consolidate the reflections and changes incited by his thought and actions in the cultural landscape.
Having contributed to the establishment of an art system driven by indigenous artists of different ethnicities and exercising what he called “Artivism”, Jaider Esbell united artistic creation with the defense of indigenous and land rights. Relying on objects, performances, paintings, and drawings in various media, he presented visions of traditional narratives and the multiple beings that populate the macuxi cosmology. In these images, which constitute universes of their own, possibilities of reconfiguration and healing of the world are suggested, starting from the apprehension of and from the dialogue between diverse knowledge and understandings.
Esbell held Apresentação: Ruku, a solo show with works and curated by Jaider Esbell, at Millan, São Paulo, Brazil (2021). Since then, his legacy has been consolidated worldwide, with solo shows at the Gladstone Gallery, New York, USA, and Seoul, South Korea; and participations in exhibitions such as the 59th Venice Biennale, Italy (2022); Mondo Reale, Triennale di Milano, Italy (2022); Living Worlds and Le Serpent Cosmique, Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, Lille, France (2022); and 34th Bienal de São Paulo (2021). Currently, his work is featured in collections such as the Centre Georges Pompidou, France; Museo de Arte Latinoamericano – MALBA, Argentina; Pinacoteca de São Paulo, Brazil; PIPA Institute, Brazil.
