Sculptor and designer Nelson Felix began his training with Ivan Serpa in 1971. In 1980, he held his first solo exhibition, in which he displayed a series of watercolors. His work was defined in 1986, when he produced a piece entitled Grafite, a work that referred to cosmic space, in an intermittent here and there. This piece led him to create amalgams of spaces, developing a series of relationships between lines and times on the globe, as a single work developed over three decades, entitled Berceuse. To expose the interrelationships of his work, Nelson Felix chose to design a book of the same name, published in 2021 by Martins Fontes.
Among his solo exhibitions, the following stand out: Carta de amor, Millan, São Paulo, Brazil (2022); Trilha para 2 lugares, MAM Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2017); OOCO, Pinacoteca de São Paulo, Brazil (2015); Cavalariças, Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage (2011); and Camiri, Museu da Vale, Vitória, Brazil (2006). He participated in the 33rd and 23rd Bienal de São Paulo, Brazil (2018 and 1996). He also participated in several group exhibitions, including: Fullgás – visual arts and the 1980s in Brazil, CCBB (2025); Osso, Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo, Brazil (2017); 6th Bienal de Curitiba, Brazil (2011); Paper Trail: 15 Brazilian Artists, Allsopp Contemporary, London, England (2008); in addition to those held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Niterói, Brazil (2005); and at MAM São Paulo, Brazil (2004).
Felix’s work is featured in important public collections, such as: Pinacoteca de São Paulo, Brasil; MAM São Paulo, Brazil; MAM Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói, Brazil; Nynex Corporation, USA; and Coleção Banco Itaú, Brazil. He has received awards throughout his career, such as: Prêmio de Artes Plásticas Marcantonio Vilaça for the whole of the work, Ministério da Cultura/Funarte (2006); artist residency, Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2002); artist residency, Curtin University, Perth, Australia (1994); and Prêmio Sol de Prata for his video O Oco, 22nd Clermond-Ferrand International Film, Television and Video Festival, France (1994).
