Lives and works in New York, USA

The American artist Peter Halley stood out as a central figure in the Neo- Conceptualist movement of the 1980s and is known for his Day-Glo flat abstract paintings that emphasize colors and systems. His paintings employ the language of geometric abstraction to explore the organization of social space in the digital era. Since the 1990’s, Halley has also worked extensively with wall-sized digital prints and low-relief sculpture which, along with his paintings, have been combined in site-specific installations. In an era increasingly dominated by digital technology and social media, Halley’s influence has been widely recognized. Also celebrated for his critical writings, in which he relates theoretical work to the digital revolution and the visual arts, Halley published the influential Index Magazine from 1996 to 2005.

His work has been exhibited around the world, holding solo exhibitions at museums and institutions such as Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid, Spain (2025); Lopez de La Serna Contemporary Arts Center, Madrid, Spain (2022); Millan, São Paulo, Brazil (2021); Museo Nivola, Sardinia, Italy (2021); Galeria Senda, Barcelone, Spain (2020); l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, Italy (2019); Lever House Art Collection, New York, USA (2018); Schrin Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, Germany (2016); Santa Barbara Museum of Art, California, USA (2015); Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain, Saint-Étienne, France (2014); Museum Folkwang, Essen, Germany (1998); MoMA, New York, USA (1997); Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdan, Netherlands (1992); Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, Spain (1992), and the Musée d’Art Contemporain, Bordeaux, France (1991).
