Nino Kapanadze presents her first exhibition in Brazil at Almeida & Dale, Fradique Coutinho 1360. Titled Abstentions (A MIRAGE BUT PERMANENT), the exhibition is curated by Cristiano Raimondi and brings together a new body of work that investigates the relationships between memory, image, and temporality, proposing a journey shaped by indeterminacy and the persistence of traces.

Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, and based in Paris, France, Nino Kapanadze approaches painting through intuition, atmosphere, and a sensitivity to light. Her works preserve unspoken tensions through environments, figures, and scenes that unfold as fragments, evoking unsettling ideas and elusive memories.

In Abstentions, the works take as their point of departure a pair of ancient sculptures encountered by the artist during a visit to the Museo Nazionale Romano in Italy. Captured in photographs and retained in memory—while the identities of the figures they depicted remained unknown—the sculptures became a catalyst for Kapanadze’s exploration of time, the nature of images, and their endurance across centuries.

Through a visual language that embraces ambiguity and constructs enigmas, her paintings become spaces of dialogue, where translucent layers of color evoke suspended environments and intimate, fleeting experiences that resist full comprehension. The exhibition thus invites viewers to move through images that oscillate between presence and absence.
