On October 25, Elena Damiani opens The Shapes Within, her first solo exhibition in Brazil, at Almeida & Dale.
The show investigates the passage of time and transformations in the landscape through the synergic encounter between materials of calcareous and industrial nature, and presents new works from series recently shown in Stockholm, New York, Mexico City, Lima, Buenos Aires, and Japan.
The act of searching within is central to Elena Damiani’s practice. In her work, geology is not only ascience of measurement but also a language of form. Every boulder, sediment, or mineral carries itsown logic of organization that can be read as signs of how nature structures itself.
The Shapes Within proposes a dialogue between art, science, and temporality, exploring how the forces of the Earth interact, stratify, and recombine on different scales. Her work reveals movements and transformations that constitute materials which appear immutable, expanding the perception of the natural world beyond a human-centered perspective.
