The tension between light and shadow forms the central axis of Huis Clos, an exhibition that brings together Miguel Rio Branco and Iberê Camargo at Casa Zalszupin in São Paulo from March 18.

In their own way, each artist approaches tragedy as an irreversible state of the human condition. In dense and visceral canvases, Camargo captured isolated figures in an oppressive world. In turn, Rio Branco presents various renowned photographic series, in addition to a new painting, titled Pequeno Inferno (2022–2023).

“As a counterbalance to the tragic weight of both artists’ works, the exhibition also includes furniture designed by Jorge Zalszupin. Many of these pieces were originally created for this house—his residence,” explains Antônio Gonçalves Filho, who curated the show with André Millan.
