Casa Zalszupim

Inspired by the catalogs and advertisements of L’Atelier, the furniture company founded by Jorge Zalszupin in 1959 and led by him throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the exhibition proposes a dialogue between architecture, art, and design, imbued with the free-spirited and humorous essence of its founder. In L’atelier’s visual communication, the furniture designed by Zalszupin and his team, following modernist principles, coexisted with geometric and colorful artworks and a striking, pop-inspired graphic identity, bringing a sense of playfulness and youthfulness to the compositions.

Set within the architecture of Zalszupin’s own house, the exhibition places furniture produced by L’Atelier in dialogue with works by artists contemporary to the architect, some of whom were also active in the fields of design and architecture. The exhibition highlights works related to constructivism, featuring artists who took part in the Concrete and Neo-Concrete movements. Like Zalszupin himself—who allowed his creations to move fluidly between rigor and formal freedom, unbound by strict modernist precepts—the exhibition presents works grounded in constructivist principles, as well as pieces by these same artists created in moments that engaged with organic abstraction, figuration, and pop influences.
