In his first solo exhibition in Brazil, Moffat Takadiwa brings to Almeida & Dale a set of original works that explore consumer culture, its colonial origins, and its environmental consequences. These are large-scale pieces that resemble mosaics or tapestries and highlight their materiality, derived from plastic and electronic waste.

Known to the Brazilian public through the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, held in 2025, where he presented a large immersive installation, Takadiwa has also represented his native country, Zimbabwe, at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024). His works are created through the selection, organization, and composition of plastic waste from everyday objects—such as computer keys, nail polish caps and brushes, toothbrushes, combs, and other everyday discards from Western societies—materials that highlight patterns of consumption and disposal in a world connected by global capitalism.

In his practice, Takadiwa reveals an intricate network that connects the visuality of Korekore traditions with collective work toward social transformation and postcolonial critique. By engaging workers at Harare’s recycling dumps, the artist reveals the continuities of colonial exploitation and economic relations in post-independence Zimbabwe, reimagining the Western world’s discards in rich compositions of color, texture, and topology inspired by local traditions.

The exhibition presents a critical gaze at historical reality coupled with an invitation to the imagination and the construction of a reality guided by collectivity, cooperation, and interdependence.
