On August 30, Almeida & Dale opens The Fabric of Being, an exhibition curated by Larry Ossei-Mensah that brings together globally recognized artists whose practices are rooted in personal, cultural, and ancestral legacies, reimagining abstraction as a tool of invocation.
Featuring Antonio Társis, Brooklin Soumahoro, Esther Mahlangu, Lidia Lisbôa, Moffat Takadiwa, Rubem Valentim, Sarah Zapata, Sidney Amaral, and Sonia Gomes—artists based in Brazil, South Africa, Zimbabwe, England, and the United States.
More than a presentation of works bound by formal affinities, the exhibition shows how “abstraction becomes a strategy for deeper engagement—a means of accessing histories, emotions, and futures often relegated to the margins of dominant narratives.” These are works that intertwine memories and visual gestures, challenging the notion of fixed identity.
