For ArPa’s first international edition, Almeida & Dale presents in Buenos Aires a dialogue between works by Rubem Valentim (1922, Salvador – 1991, São Paulo) and Paulo Pasta (1959, Ariranha). Drawing on the modernist legacy and the vibrant geometric abstraction of the mid-twentieth century, and drawing as well on his own repertoire and lived experience within Afro-Brazilian cultures, Valentim established a rigorous program that interweaves geometric figures, chromatic combinations, and the symbolism of orixá emblems. His impact extends to contemporary production, evident in the work of artists active today, such as Paulo Pasta. The São Paulo–based painter’s work is populated by minimal icons and the suggestion of spaces that are, in essence, planes of color and matter, suspended in an almost absolute present and resulting from a long practical and intellectual investigation. With this selection from Brazilian abstract art, Almeida & Dale reinforces its commitment to the dissemination of multiple perspectives and new approaches, promoting the legacy of emblematic artists from different eras on both the national and international scene.
