36th Bienal presents works by Lidia Lisbôa, Marlene Almeida, Maxwell Alexandre, Rebeca Carapiá and Heitor dos Prazeres

06/09/25 – 11/01/26
Bienal de São Paulo
São Paulo, Brazil

Friday, September 5, marks the pre-opening of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, presenting commissioned works by Lidia Lisbôa, Marlene Almeida, Maxwell Alexandre, and Rebeca Carapiá, alongside a historical set of works by Heitor dos Prazeres.

With installations, sculptures, and paintings that reframe relations with human and non-human alterity, challenge historical asymmetries, and celebrate the potential of encounters, these artists are part of the exhibition that seeks to rethink humanity in the silence of poetry and the interconnectedness of experiences, while exploring how cultures create paths of coexistence.

Entitled Not All Travellers Walk Roads – Of Humanity as Practice, this edition of the Bienal is organized by the curatorial team comprised of Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung, Alya Sebti, Anna Roberta Goetz, Thiago de Paula Souza, and Keyna Eleison.

The Biennial opens to the general public on September 6 and runs until January 11, 2026.
