On Thursday, October 23, at 7 pm, Ana Elisa Egreja welcomes the public for a conversation with curator Lilia Schwarcz at her solo exhibition, Golden Horizon, at Almeida & Dale 1430. The talk marks the closing of the show, on view through Saturday, October 25.
The exhibition features a new series of paintings of Duralex plates arranged with placemats, in which Ana Elisa Egreja turns her gaze to emblematic domestic objects, exploring their historical and emotional reverberations through masterful depictions of food and glass effects.
It also brings together paintings with gold leaf applications, establishing dialogues between her work and the pictorial tradition, particularly of the medieval period, in still lifes and interior scenes where canonical artistic motifs blend with Brazilian popular culture.
“Ana Elisa thus appropriates the golden shimmer to create a pop universe that produces a different kind of elevation: no longer the sacred settings, but the day-to-day of households that make the home into an altar of sorts”, notes curator Lilia Schwarcz in the exhibition text.
