Curated by Igor Simões, the show inaugurates the 1-54 Presents section at the fair with a group exhibition offering a critical look at Afro-Brazilian artistic production in dialogue with the narratives of the African diaspora and Brazil’s cultural formation. Through the works on view, Simões highlights how these artists use the reexamination of art history and archives, or their relationship to geography and landscape, as tools to establish connections with the diaspora and propose deep structural transformations within the art field.
