On Saturday, March 22, Carlos Garaicoa unveils the work Jardim Frágil at Usina de Arte in Água Preta, Pernambuco, Brazil.

The site-specific work combines the pavilion and its orchid exhibition space with a central sculptural ensemble made up of iron rods, similar to the tools used by glassblowers, topped by Murano glass figures.

“I’m effectively playing with the contrast between finding the mathematical relationship in nature and, on the other hand, the chaos, or apparent disorder, that we can find in vegetation. The play between control and freedom is present not only in the pavilion but also in the work Jardim Frágil, which gave rise to it. The pavilion was conceived as a prism, a ‘controlled’ structure that serves to house orchids, which represent absolute beauty and freedom. The same is true of those types of ‘scepters’ in the installation, which have a prism on one side and a free figure in the shape of a flower on the other, reminiscent of the orchids that surround it,” explains the artist.
