“Sacred site of the first landing of humanity in the narrative of the Tukano Yepá-Mahsã people, who crossed the milk oceans sailing on the Transformation Snake Canoes from the other side of the world,” writes Daiara Tukano in a post on her Instagram account.
Conceived by Daiara Tukano and curated by Denilson Baniwa and Priscilla Danny, the group exhibition Ohpeko Dihtara — Travessias da Guanabara brings together new perspectives on Guanabara Bay from the viewpoint of eight Indigenous artists. The region, marked by its colonial history, is reframed in the exhibition as Indigenous Land through cosmological and political perspectives. Works by Daiara and Gustavo Caboco are on view.
The show is also part of the program of Encontro com Arariboia, a project curated by Daiara Tukano. Launched in early 2026 with a seminar that brought together various Indigenous leaders, the project now unfolds with the exhibition at MAC Niterói, accompanied by a series of activations throughout the exhibition period.
