Garoa Espaço Cultural is a new independent art space in São Paulo. Guga Szabzon is part of its inaugural exhibition, A felicidade é uma arma quente.   

Through the work of thirteen artists, curator Galciani Neves proposes an expanded understanding of happiness as a collective state—a driving force behind acts of resistance and invention in both cultural and political spheres. The exhibition’s title is drawn from a verse in Belchior’s song “Comentário a respeito de John.”  

Four works by Guga Szabzon are on view, in which the artist juxtaposes symbols to the semantic meanings of words with the support materials, such as felt and flannel.
