The Museu do Pontal presents Roraimarte III, a new solo exhibition by Gustavo Caboco. The opening is part of the institution’s third Festival das Culturas Indígenas.
“With this exhibition, I want to bring together the word ‘indigenous’ — those who are native to the land — with ‘alien’ — those who are from elsewhere — and, in a science fiction setting, bring Roraima closer to Mars in order to debate the historical issues that shape our human lives today,” Caboco told the museum’s press office.
Drawing from news of NASA’s Curiosity rover landing, the artist examines in his works the notions of nature established today across different contexts, as well as the displacement of Indigenous populations in Brazil. The mapping carried out by the rover was named Roraima due to its geological similarity to Mount Roraima, a sacred territory for many Indigenous peoples.
On the opening day of the exhibition, Saturday, April 11, starting at 3pm, Gustavo Caboco will be in conversation with Angela Mascelani and Lucas Van de Beuque, the exhibition’s curators and directors of the Museu do Pontal.
