Works by Gustavo Caboco, Heitor dos Prazeres, Lidia Lisbôa, and Rubem Valentim are featured in Chegança, the inaugural exhibition of the Museu Vassouras in the Vale do Café, south of Rio de Janeiro. The opening takes place today, 6 December, and runs through Monday, the 8th.

Curated by Marcelo Campos with curatorial assistance from Thayná Trindade, the exhibition gives voice to jongo, samba, and the oral culture of quilombola, riverine communities, and indigenous people. The three thematic sections bring together the popular traditions that traverse the region of its historical formation in Brazil.

On Sunday, 7 December, at 2 p.m., Lidia Lisbôa joins Campos and Mestra Maria Amélia for a conversation as part of the institution’s extensive opening program.
