Lidia Lisbôa is part of the Love in Excess collective, which opens on October 23 at the Visual Arts Center in Austin, USA.

Curated by Maysa Martins, Love in Excess is inspired by the song of the same name by Caribbean singer Ophelia Marie. In it, Marie expresses her desire for a love that is sensual and captivating, associating such love with a heavenly experience, only conceived by an angel.

The exhibition seeks to resonate with the perspectives of affection in music, bringing together eleven prominent Black female and queer artists from Brasil, Caribe, and USA, inviting reflection on their experiences as subjects and objects of love and desire, based on thoughts of queerness and Black femininity.

Lisbôa participates with a work from the series Tetas que deram de mamar ao mundo, 2022,  which she has been developing for over ten years. In making the sculptures, which can take on different scales, the artist crochets strips of fabric together and then suspends them in shapes that refer to the body, such as breasts and wombs. Crochet is a skill that is transmitted orally and through social interaction. In addition, it is a tool for creating networks, particularly in female contexts
