Matamortes, a film by Thiago Martins de Melo, is featured in the Grand Competition – Feature Film selection of the 36th edition of Animafest Zagreb. The screenings take place on June 9, at Kino SC, and on June 10, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb.
Among the oldest and most respected festivals dedicated exclusively to animation, Animafest Zagreb brings together the leading works in the genre from around the world. The artist’s feature-length film, released in 2025 and produced by A Gota Preta Filmes, tells the saga of an anti-heroine, the daughter of a syncretized Afro-Latino god, from her conception, through her struggles against the patriarchal colonial system, to her necrosophical initiatory journey toward anticosmic liberation in the waters of Chaos.
