Moffat Takadiwa is the grand winner of the inaugural Toyota Tsusho CFAO African Art Award.
In a conversation with A&D, the artist reflected on the significance of the prize: “To focus on Africans who are working on African soil is also a recognition of the great challenges which we face– which are also unique. It’s a very important encouragement to those who are working and living here.”
As part of the award, Takadiwa is participating in an exhibition at the Palais de Lomé, in Togo, where he presents sculptures resembling large-scale tapestries made from discarded materials. Almeida & Dale celebrates this important recognition of Takadiwa’s career and his contribution to contemporary art.
