Tunga, Sem título (da série Palíndromo Incesto), 1990/2006
José Damasceno, Miguel Rio Branco, Tunga, and Victor Arruda participate in Corpos Explícitos, Corpos Ocultos, which opens this Saturday, September 27, at the Pinacoteca do Ceará in Fortaleza.
Curated by Agnaldo Farias and Adolfo Montejo Navas, the exhibition reflects on the fragmented representation of the body in contemporary art, bringing together 48 artists who have shaped Brazilian art from the second half of the 20th century to the present day.
These artists emerged in the artistic landscape between the 1970s and 1990s and began to approach the body as a vehicle for exploring symbolic and political issues. Within the context of the exhibition, these artists, working across multiple media, engage with themes such as the subversion of the body’s status, its evocation through different materials, and the human figure to challenge morality and reveal social vulnerability.
The exhibition is organized into five thematic lines: Corpo máquina e ficção especulativa; Corpo político e regimes de controle; Corpo desejo, corpo ausência; Corpo-matéria: orgânico, simbiótico, mutável; and Arquivos do corpo.
