On view until January 25, The Earth, the Fire, the Water and the Winds: For a Museum of Errantry with Édouard Glissant explores the thinking of Martinican writer Édouard Glissant in dialogue with works by Brazilian and international artists, including Rayana Rayo and Rebeca Carapiá.
Inspired by the anthology La Terre, le feu, l’eau et les vents, edited by Édouard Glissant, the exhibition reflects on the idea of a “Museum of Errantry”: an archipelagic museum grounded in Relation, one that rejects fixed genealogies and embraces memory in motion. The show imagines this museum in layers, connecting artworks, documents, and landscapes through the notions of the “word of the landscape” and the “landscape of the word.” It brings together key concepts from Glissant’s thought—such as creolization, Tout-Monde, opacity, and tremor—and presents, for the first time in Brazil, part of his personal collection, now held at the Mémorial ACTe, featuring artists shaped by diaspora, displacement, and creation in motion.
