In different institutions, Rebeca Carapiá presents a series of sculptures inspired by the aerial roots of the Paxiúba trees, which are abundant in the Amazon region. Drawing on this living architecture, the artist constructs lines that compose the space in works of copper and iron. Hand-bent, the iron reveals the “physical exercise” that underpins her sculptural practice: the work in the studio, the repetition of gestures, and the resistance of the material.
 
Beginning on April 9, the touring performances, the traveling exhibitions of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo – Not All Travellers Walk Roads: Of Humanity as Practice, are on view in Brasília through May 31 at the Museu Nacional da República, curated by Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung and André Pitol, and at Sesc Santos through June 21, curated by Thiago de Paula Souza.
