Almeida & Dale is proud to announce the co-representation of Grada Kilomba in Brazil, in partnership with Goodman Gallery.

Complex and multidisciplinary, her work focuses on storytelling. Long-silenced narratives take on form, body, voice, and movement through a wide range of languages—including performances, staging, texts, videos, sculptures, installations, and sound pieces—unfolding a critical position on the relationships between knowledge, power, repetition, and violence.

Through works composed of simple, precise forms or the presence of the human body within nearly empty geometric spaces, the artist contrasts beauty with the historical cycle of repeated violence, in what she terms “poetic disobedience.” Often described as a new post-colonial minimalism, her practice disrupts the collective imagination shaped by dominant narratives. Using materials such as carbonized wood, textiles, soil, coffee, sugar, cocoa, clay, stones, and glass, Grada Kilomba creates minimalist encounters in her artistic practice that give depth and complexity to her immersive works.

With a solid academic background, Grada Kilomba holds a PhD in Philosophy from Freie Universität Berlin and has served as a visiting professor at several universities, including Humboldt University of Berlin and the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Her work has been widely shown internationally, with participation in exhibitions such as the Jinan Art Biennale, BoCA —Biennale of Contemporary Art, the 10th Berlin Biennale, Documenta 14, and the 32nd São Paulo Biennial, as well as solo exhibitions at institutions including the Museo Reina Sofía, Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and the Palais de Tokyo.

In February, the artist presents Act III of O Barco at Galeria Galpão at Instituto Inhotim, which includes the video installation Opera to a Black Venus (2024), on view in Brazil for the first time.
