Thiago Martins de Melo, Amálgama origem, 2021
Thiago Martins de Melo is featured in the exhibition Amazonia Açu, opening on September 3 at Americas Society in New York, USA.
The show features a pair of works by Thiago Martins de Melo. In the sculptures Amálgama origem and Homem onça (both from 2021), Martins de Melo evokes histories of struggle and resistance, combining elements and references from different episodes, places, and religious practices in Brazil.
With Keyna Eleison as curatorial advisor, and co-curated by a committee formed by representatives from the nine countries across which the Amazon rainforest extends, including Mateus Nunes, from Brazil. The exhibition presents a kaleidoscopic panorama of the region’s aesthetic, cultural, and material diversity.
