Thiago Martins de Melo is featured in the exhibition Claudia Andujar e seu universo: sustentabilidade, ciência e espiritualidade, opening on July 18 at Museu do Amanhã in Rio de Janeiro.
Curated by Paulo Herkenhoff, the show aims to bring together contemporary artists who dialogue with Andujar’s work, especially with the defense of Indigenous Peoples, their territories, and their insurgencies, a recurring theme in Martins de Melo’s work. The artist will be showing the animated film Rasga Mortalha, 2019, which is inspired by the legend of the owl “Suindara,” to oppose a fatalistic view of Brazilian history. Formed by successions of visual collages, the video moves through different temporalities, historical events, and personal fabrications, building a political narrative with psychedelic contours.
The show is part of the Ocupação Esquenta COP – a series of activities dedicated to sustainability, science, ecology, and our relationship with the environment. The initiative proposes a direct dialog with COP30, which will be held in Belém, Brazil, in November.
