Thiago Martins de Melo, Amazonian Bordunas, 2017
Thiago Martins de Melo participates in the exhibition Cerámica Suro: Una historia de colaboración, producción y coleccionismo en el Arte Contemporáneo at Museo de Arte de Zapopan. Curated by Viviana Kuri, the group show brings together works belonging to the Colección Marcela y José Noé Suro.
In the exhibition, Martins de Melo presents Amazonian Bordunas, which title refers to the indigenous fighting instrument. A meta-narrative scheme transits between techniques from realist and expressionist painting, recurring images from mass culture and art history; a visual continuity that finds its referral in colonial conflicts updated in different features.
