Opening on Thursday, April 3, the exhibition presents key works for understanding the transformation of the poetics and mythology surrounding the artist’s work and is the first dedicated to his oeuvre since the British gallery began representing Tunga alongside Almeida & Dale in September 2024.
The exhibition starts with the artist’s first sculptures, which allude to the figure of marionettes, and culminates with the Morfológicas (Morphologicals ), the artist’s final series, exhibited in the 2016 solo show Pálpebras, in São Paulo. Are also included in the show works that reflect the moment when Tunga began to use materials such as bottles, crystals, amber, and liquids in his works, complementing the use of copper, iron, and glass.
The exhibition expands the international public’s grasp of the vast vocabulary developed by the artist over decades and marks Tunga’s return to London, where, in 1989, he held his seminal Lezart exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery.
