The book Pintura Brasileira Séc. XXI presents an overview of contemporary pictorial production in Brazil. It brings together diverse approaches to artistic practice and reflection that unfold simultaneously across different regions and generations of Brazilian visual artists. Painting holds a powerful place within the global art scene, and the wide range of styles represented in the book results from a complex equation involving academic study, local influences, international references, and, above all, the poetic substance each artist carries within themselves.
Some emphasize drawing, others broad and firm brushstrokes, while others still explore fierce gestures, in contrast to those who favor raw color or soft tones. In addition to highlighting the new generation of painters, the book also features the work of renowned artists active in the professional circuit since the 1980s, given their importance and formative influence on younger creators.
With more than 160 works by 33 Brazilian artists, the publication also includes essays by critics José Bento Ferreira and Tiago Mesquita.
