There was once an infinite space, constant and homogeneous. Invented bymen of the Renaissance, made visible by the geometric perspective, it could be gone in all directions, in four orthogonal coordinate, expand to all sides without barriers, measured, represented. Abstract, neutral, the same everywhere, as well as time seemed to be perennial, be there forever at our disposal, at our feet. But behold, instead of handsome princes of fairy tales, appears here and there, in moments of danger of art history, artists who play the cook of the true story of Sleeping Beauty, waking everyone in the castle with a slap on his apprentice, also waking the truth (or at least a glimpse of it) for so long asleep. These artists, with their objects, with their actions, sometimes noisily, sometimes with an almost silent subtle, makes us see what’s so obvious that goes unnoticed. That space is not that magic cube of infinite proportions, consistent and transparent. It’s full of cracks, obstacles, tensions, pregnâncias. It is unstable, shifting, folding, as well as time, that brother of yours. Tulio Pinto is one of those artists.

In the work now presented here at the Museum of Ribeirão Preto, a hard-core balletissetbetween the largeorangebandwhen itcrosses the roomand holdstwoconcrete slabs, which can be viewed as two dancers at the peak of their balance. We no longer know who supports who, if the cloth is stretched by the orange plates or if they are hanging by the tension of the fabric and the support of the wall given to one of them. A flow appears to cross the objects and room to dredge this energy field that is formed, sustaining, dynamically together. No matter the efforts to quantify, what matters is the result, ripping the spacethereand establishinganunprecedentedscale, the power of aplace thathad not been noticed: its dimensions, its qualities of height, width, depth, density of air , the intensity of illumination. Everything comes to light, it becomes more intense and real in the presence of these elements as simple and crude, arranged in a delicate, precise and subtle. This space can no longer be perceived as something abstract and homogeneous, but as something that needs, drives, experiences, deploys, discovers and perceives with all senses alert at their maximum, at a time dilated and full of possibilities. We do so with joy, even if there are surprises, with thatwell-beingof the newlyhealed, the sickwho justrestore healthand see life with new and eager eyes. This multiple and open space shows that we are for now also ready, and after all, alive.
