Rodrigo Andrade: Pintura Paisagem
Curated by Lorenzo Mammì
10.08 — 12.10.2022
Since 2001 Rodrigo Andrade regularly paints landscapes, initially just as an outdoor entertainment and in small formats. But gradually the activity acquires greater importance. In 2010, he exhibited large night scenes at the Bienal de São Paulo, with thick layers of paint applied in stencils, which inaugurated a new phase in his production. From then on, his landscape painting became even more complex, diversifying techniques and styles that resorted to other sources or models besides direct observation: paintings by ancient authors or by amateurs, photographs, images from the internet, video games.
In general, Rodrigo's landscape painting is, on the one hand, a reflection on the history of painting, based on one of the genres most sensitive to changes in techniques and styles. On the other hand, the rescue of a direct relationship with the world around, testing the conventions of painting in the experience and perception of space. Codes of representation and experience of the real do not go together, but constantly refer to each other.
This exhibition brings together landscapes painted over the last 20 years for the first time.
