Almeida & Dale launches Lygia Pape's exhibition book

On May 25th, Saturday, 11AM - 4PM, Almeida & Dale is pleased to invite the public to the book launch accompanying the current exhibition entitled “Lygia Pape: ação-dentro”. 

In addition to presenting a compilation of images of work and from the exhibition, the book features an essay by curator Ana Cândida Avelar and curatorial assistant Laura Rago. 

The bilingual publication is divided into three sections: construction, body, and senses, the thematic axes and pillars of this individual exhibition dedicated to the work of Lygia Pape (1927-2004). The show aimed at highlighting the constant tension between the geometry of structures and bodily energy as the driving force of Pape’s artistic research. 

The binomial that titles the book and the exhibition was inspired by a statement by the artist given in the 1980s, which “rejects the idolatry of the artwork as the sole source of attention and becomes a tool of ‘ação-dentro’ [action-within]”.
